Organisers of the Looe 10 Miler running race are celebrating raising more than £33,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance over the past six years, cementing its place as a key community fundraiser for the local life-saving service.
Organised by Looe Pioneers Running Club, the scenic but famously tough event draws hundreds of runners each year. Since deciding to use the event as a way to support Cornwall Air Ambulance in 2019, the club has seen it go from strength to strength. Race Director Darren Vilton-Tebbutt said: “It’s an absolute privilege to support the Air Ambulance. It’s a service we all rely on in Cornwall - especially in our more remote areas. Knowing our event helps keep the helicopter flying is something the whole club is proud of.” Cornwall Air Ambulance is tasked to more than 1,000 missions a year across the Duchy and depends entirely on donations to operate. Morwenna, Cornwall Air Ambulance’s Community Manager said: “£33,000 is an incredible total. Their fundraising really will have made a lifesaving difference to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, helping bring critical care to those who need it most. It is such a pleasure to be a part of the Looe 10 Miler every year, and the Looe Pioneers’ enthusiasm and passion means so much to all the team here at Cornwall Air Ambulance.” Members of the team recently visited the charity’s headquarters to present a cheque for £4,973.75, raised from the 2025 race. With next year’s event already in planning, organisers hope to build on their fundraising success in 2026. It is a very exciting year for Cornwall Air Ambulance, who are in the last weeks of their appeal to bring a second lifesaving aircraft to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly thanks to amazing supporters like the Looe Pioneers.
